The Cootie Terrarium is an experimental piece that explores using Flash and ActionScript 1.0 as a vehicle for animation and artificial dumbness. Cooties are non-gendered creatures that live on the skin of male and female host humans. Althought not considered a virus per se, they are commonly transferred through physical contact between members of opposite genders. Humans spend much of their childhood avoiding potential cootie transfers. Curiously, cootie transfer loses its stigma and becomes highly desirable once a host human has reached puberty.
The cooties live their lives simply, eating when hungry and sleeping when sleepy. You can drag food into the terrarium to watch the cooties eat. Food will also occasionally randomly sprout from the ground. Be careful, cooties can get very jealous of one another. If you give too much food to a single cootie, it could become a candidate for a beat-down. Cooties become little cootie angels when they've been beaten on too hard by their jealous companions.
